Carbon Peel
The carbon peel, also known as the ‘Hollywood Peel’ and ‘China Doll Peel,’ is the latest in skin rejuvenation laser treatments that tightens pores, exfoliates skin, cleanses deep pores, kills acne bacteria, reduces fine pigmented hairs, improves fine lines and wrinkles, reduces blackheads and congestion, and reduces oil flow.
Its incredible results and subsequent fame are derived from the use of carbon. The black substance acts as a target for laser light, which is attracted to darker colours. When the carbon is applied and massaged into the face, it enters into the pores. Once hit by laser light, the carbon heats up and ‘explodes,’ removing built up dead skin and damaging the inner walls of the pore. The heat generated induces collagen growth, reducing pore size, and improving skin texture, which would otherwise not be possible without the use of carbon.
The market demand for the carbon peel has risen dramatically in the recent past, and is a treatment that should be offered by every skin clinic.
A good quality Q-Switch Nd:YAG laser is required to perform the carbon peel. The laser is used in all stages of the treatment, with the carbon enhancing and improving the effects of the laser
The Q-Switch laser, which shatters particles in the skin, is first used to ‘clean’ the skin prior to applying carbon. This opens the pores and allows for the carbon to enter.
The laser must have the ability to increase the pulse duration to slightly longer than a standard nanosecond Q-Switch pulse, usually 300 microseconds, in order to heat the carbon and induce collagenesis. After this phase, the laser is returned back to standard Q-Switch mode, and clears the treatment area of carbon.
The IRIS Q-Switch Nd:YAG laser is the optimum laser for the carbon peel, amongst other treatments. It’s ability to switch to a ‘Short Long Pulse’ at 300 microseconds increases your patient’s results by delivering more heat than a standalone Q-Switch pulse.
